What is free in Moji?
The free tier is the whole path for reading and remembering Japanese words, not a sample. Every word carries its reading, meanings, an example sentence and audio, and kanji words carry a mnemonic built from their components. Reviews run on the official FSRS-6 algorithm with no daily cap. The adaptive placement test sets your starting point, and the Vocabulary, Kana Reading, Kana Writing and Daily Mix quizzes check what you studied. The widgets, the Convenience Store conversation and the first story of every series are free too.
What does Moji Premium add?
Premium is for practicing the words you have learned in more ways:
- Seven more quiz modes: Listening, Fill in the Blank, Particles, Conjugation, Sentence Build, Pronunciation and Kanji Writing.
- JLPT quiz decks for N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1, and a Daily Mix you can customize.
- The other eleven guided conversations, from the café and the doctor to the airport and a friend’s place.
- The rest of the graded stories, with narration.
- Practice on any card: pronunciation checking and kanji stroke tracing.
- Placement retests and the review forecast, retention and activity charts.
Nothing that is free gets moved behind Premium later.
How does the free trial work?
If your Apple ID has not had a Moji trial before, the monthly and yearly plans both start with 7 free days. Apple handles the billing: you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Moji can remind you before the trial ends. To cancel, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Moji.
Monthly or yearly?
The yearly plan works out to about $4.16 per month, a saving of 53% over twelve months of the monthly plan. The monthly plan costs more over a year but you can stop after any month.
Prices outside the US
Apple sets local prices for each App Store country, so the amount you see may differ from the US price. For example, the Indian App Store lists Premium at ₹999 per month or ₹4,999 per year. The App Store page always shows the price for your country before you subscribe.
Refunds and restoring a purchase
Refunds for App Store subscriptions go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. To restore Premium on a new iPhone or iPad, open Moji’s Settings tab, tap Upgrade to Premium, then Restore Purchases, while signed in with the same Apple ID. More answers are on the support page.
How does this compare with other Japanese apps?
Each comparison guide lists prices side by side: WaniKani alternative, Renshuu vs Moji, Anki alternative and the best Japanese learning apps for iPhone. This page covers Moji - Learn Japanese Daily by Huy Bui (App Store ID 6760421124), not the other apps called Moji; the about page explains the difference.
